How Doma Works
A Clear Path to the Care you Need, Built Around Your Matrescence.
Therapy is at the center of the Doma experience. Every mother's path with Doma begins with, and is held by, perinatal therapy. From there, we build the collaborative care around you: the trusted village we've built at Doma, or collaboration with your own providers.

What is Doma?
Doma is a maternal mental health practice, at the core, with a trusted village of care gathered around it. We provide perinatal therapy and connect mothers to a curated circle of providers who support the fuller physical, emotional, and practical realities of pregnancy and postpartum.
What is perinatal therapy / maternal mental health?
Perinatal therapy is mental health care specifically for pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, addressing things like anxiety, depression, birth trauma, identity shifts, and the emotional weight of early motherhood. It's different from general therapy because it's built specifically for this season of life.
Are Doma therapists covered by insurance?
Doma's therapy services are out-of-network. We partner with Thrizer to handle everything insurance-related, from checking your reimbursement rate before your first session, to submitting claims on your behalf, so getting reimbursed is as easy and affordable as possible.
How do I find out my out-of-network benefits for therapy?
We can check your estimated reimbursement rate with Thrizer before your first session, so you know what to expect upfront.
Do I need to submit my own insurance claims for therapy?
No! Thrizer submits claims on your behalf once you're set up, so you don't have to manage the paperwork yourself.
Can my partner be involved in my care?
Yes, we offer couples work, and we're happy to loop your partner into the broader conversation about your care when it's helpful.
What happens after I schedule a consultation?
You'll have a 20 minute conversation with our team about where you are: physically, emotionally, and practically. From there, we'll recommend a path forward, which may include therapy, a referral to someone in our village, or both.
What if I'm not sure what I need yet?
That's exactly what the first conversation is for. You don't need to arrive with a plan. We'll help you figure it out together.
Do I need to be in therapy with Doma to access the rest of the network?
Therapy is the foundation of the Doma experience: it's how we get to know you and build the right care around you. If you're only looking for one specific provider (like a nutritionist or acupuncturist), we're glad to make that connection. But the full, coordinated Doma experience, where your care is truly held and connected, starts with therapy.
Do I have to use every provider in the Doma village?
Not at all. Your care is built around what you actually need, for some mothers that's therapy alone, for others it's therapy plus two or three additional providers. There's no set package you're expected to complete.
Is the village of care covered by insurance?
It varies by provider. Some accept insurance directly, others are self-pay or out-of-network like us. We'll always be upfront about this when we make a connection.
Where are you located?
We're a virtual practice based in New York City. Some of our village of care providers offer in-home visits or beautiful office spaces around the city. Doma is open to residents of New York State, though many of our services extend beyond. Reach out and we'll let you know exactly what's available based on where you live.
Can I join if I'm not a resident of NY?
Our therapists are licensed to provide mental health care to anyone living in New York State. Many are also licensed in other states, so it's worth checking with us directly. Our events, however, are open to everyone, regardless of where you live.
How do I join as a provider?
Email Anastasia at anastasia@domamother.com to start the conversation. We'd love to learn about your work and see if it's a fit for the Doma village.
Who do I contact with more questions?
You can reach Anastasia Voron, Founder, directly at anastasia@domamother.com, or use the contact form above. We're happy to help!
